about

Reveling in cold, austere, and stark chirping, mechanized, and weird-percussive experimentation. Noise for the sake of noise. Happy, enthusiastic flat notes. Oscillating, pulsing, sputtering, and resonating. Loops galore, dead stops. Overly confident, overdriven buzzy-ness. Chewing on metal and tiny bits of groovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve, swirling tones, seemingly out-of-tune drum hits, popping and echo-y sounds, no lyrics or monologues, hard-won joy, ADHD drum machines at tea-time, and other things.

released December 27, 2023

Like nearly every SRI release, this one was the product of pure experimentation and surprisingly linear work. Unofficial process: (1) Make a few sounds/melodies; (2) Repeat 'em; (3) Add extra layers; (4) If it seems like if there's a nice, balanced mix, add more just to push things to excess; (5) Eventually run out of ideas and call it quits.

Every single sound here originated from 139 negligibly-distinct micro-samples of hand-drumming upon objects and surfaces (e.g., finger-tapping, knuckle-rapping, open-palm-slapping, and fingernail-flicking) in a garage, recorded past midnight. That's not a joke, but a weird (maybe unsurprising) fact. To be honest, this album has been a long time coming and finally making it felt pretty gangster.

(After the release of SRI's previous album "GRIND IT OUT", popular demand could not have been clearer. A quirky, all-sample-based album would be sure to win-over the few still riding the fence.)

Lmms 1.2.2 again provided production, but was really put the ringer this time (i.e., considerable software calisthenics definitely occurred). Despite all sounds originating in percussion samples, heavy sample manipulation and effects processing created the cornucopia of final sounds you'll enjoy here.

Sponsored political statements: "Presidents are kings are shit", "Intifada is a verb", "All administrators are bastards (AAAB)", and "R! I! O! T! What's that spell? Riot!".
